Assessment of knowledge, attitude, and practice of child caregivers towards oral rehydration salt and zinc for the treatment of diarrhea in under 5 children in Gondar town

BackgroundDiarrhea is the second-largest cause of death in under-five children, killing an estimated seven hundred sixty thousand children Africa each year. This study aimed to assess knowledge, attitude & practice child caregivers towards oral rehydration salt and zinc use for treatment diarrhea under 5 Gondar town, Amhara regional state, Ethiopia.MethodsInstitutional based cross-sectional was conducted at pediatrics outpatient department University comprehensive specialized hospital. Data collected using a structured questionnaire were entered analyzed Statistical Package Social Sciences (SPSS) version 20. Frequencies percentages used describe descriptive data results presented tables figures. Both binary multivariable logistic regression analyses test association between different variables.ResultsA total 306 participated study. The majority them 269(87.9%) defined as occurrence watery or loose stool three more times day. Almost all but few 297(97.1%) believed that series problem childhood. Caregivers’ educational level, occupational status, sex significant factors associated with their knowledge about Oral Rehydration Salt (P ? 0.05), while status only factor 0.05). Female found 2.8 practical utilization diarrheal management compared male counterparts (AOR = 2.875(1.319,6.263)). Similarly, employed 2.9 have good than unemployed 2.927(1.533,5.587).ConclusionThere attitude, consumption among Gondar. Regular strategies improving caregivers’ awareness disease Zinc tablets are advised.
